Abstract:

Photograph album documenting activities pertaining to the Aerial Photographic Section of the U.S. Army Air Forces stationed in Alaska and Western Canada during the second World War. Album includes professional photographs, personal snapshots and commercial photographic postcards. Wide range of subject matter includes on-duty and leisure activities of soldiers; individual and group portraits of service members; various points of interest along the newly-constructed Alaska Highway (then known as the Alaska-Canada Highway, or Alcan Highway); various U.S.A.A.F. planes, airfields and bases; a U.S.O. show; and scenes of various indigenous peoples of Alaska. Commercial postcards depict tourist attractions (cities and towns, landscapes, wildlife, sled dogs, etc.) throughout Alaska and Western Canada and indigenous peoples of the region. Also includes photographs taken at Randolph Field, Texas. Album contains no aerial photography. Possibly compiled by Bruce B. Nichols, who appears throughout the album.
